Congressman Williams Votes in Favor of Hurricane Harvey Relief

September 8, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Roger Williams (R – Austin), released the following statement Friday after the bi-cameral passage of Hurricane Harvey Relief:

"Our friends and family in Texas have a long road ahead when it comes to rebuilding the communities destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. In their hour of need, I will be with them every step of the way, which is why today Congress passed a funding package that included the first down payment for flood victims. I am grateful that the nation came together in such a critical time for my fellow Texans. However, I must express my disappointment that a relief package, designed to help those in need, was exploited with the attachment of a Continuing Resolution (CR) and a debt ceiling increase. Opportunistic lawmakers, from both sides of the aisle, must check their self-serving agendas at the door, and place the well-being of Americans up front. Career politicians have once again misused their power in Washington, further threatening to bankrupt America, while failing to decrease the federal debt, and create a balanced budget."
