Congressman Cohen Announces Sickle Cell Disease Grant

Funding underwrites University of Memphis surveillance program

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $249,404 from the National Center for Birth Defects and Development Disabilities for its ongoing sickle cell disease surveillance program.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Sickle cell disease disproportionately affects Black Americans, and I'm pleased the University's surveillance program will continue to support the important work being done to study and eventually eradicate this disease."
