Cohen: Senate Approves Nomination of V. Lynn Evans to TVA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced that the U.S. Senate yesterday approved the nomination of Memphian V. Lynn Evans, CPA, to the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Congressman Cohen recommended Evans to President Obama for consideration. Evans will fill the position on the TVA Board currently held by Bishop William Graves who has reached the end of his second term on the Board.

“I recommended V. Lynn Evans to President Obama because she is a superb accountant with extensive public and private sector experience,” said Congressman Cohen. “She is intelligent, well respected and admired throughout Memphis and Tennessee for her dedication to public service and her skills as an accountant. It was my pleasure to recommend her to President Obama. She will serve the millions of people across the country who rely on the Tennessee Valley Authority well.”

President Obama expressed his confidence that Evans “will greatly serve the American people” when she was nominated.

The TVA, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.

Biography: V. Lynn Evans

V. Lynn Evans is the owner of V. Lynn Evans, CPA, a certified public accounting and consulting firm established in 1983. Ms. Evans has also served on the Board of Commissioners of Memphis Light, Gas, and Water Division since 2004, and served as Chair of the Board from 2008 to 2009. She has served on the Board of Directors of First Alliance Bank in Memphis, Tennessee, since its inception in 1998. Ms. Evans is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Black Business Association, and the National Association of Women Business Owners. She has served on the boards of a number of community organizations, including ArtsMemphis from 1998 to 2008 and the RISE Foundation from 1997 to 2007, where she was Vice Chair in 2007. Ms. Evans received a B.S. in Accounting from Jackson State University.
