Congressman Cohen Votes to Move 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to the House Floor

June 12, 2019

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today voted to move a measure improving and extending the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to the House floor.

On Tuesday, Congressman Cohen presided over a hearing on the compensation fund which examined the health consequences of the September 11, 2001, attack on first responders and people living and working near the targeted crash sites.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Terrorists attacked our country on September 11 and the fallout from those attacks on Lower Manhattan continue to affect victims. Toxic dust clouds affected first responders and others in the vicinity of the attacks and new illnesses continue to be discovered. This was an attack on America. I went to Ground Zero weeks after the attack and saw the wreckage and the horror. The Twin Towers, the FDNY and the NYPD have been in my thoughts ever since. Extending the Victim Compensation Fund and adequately funding it to compensate those affected is the right thing to do, and I look forward to voting for it on the House floor soon."
