Congressman Cohen Announces $9.9 Million in Health Grants

April 26, 2019

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be awarding two grants totaling $9.9 million to two essential Memphis health care institutions.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive $5,000,729 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases to study influenza vaccination and immunity. As the premiere hospital specializing in fighting childhood cancer, this funding will allow for further groundbreaking research.

A second grant of $4,929,393 was awarded to the Memphis Health Center from HHS's Health Resources and Services Administration. The grant will provide financial assistance to health centers to support continued comprehensive primary health care services either directly on-site or through established arrangements without regard to patients' ability to pay.
