Congressman Cohen Announces $2.3 Million Deicing Grant for Memphis International Airport
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure's Aviation Subcommittee, today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive a $2,362,542 grant for a deicing pad and related facilities from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Snow and ice on aircraft wings can affect airflow during takeoff so it must be removed. The centralized de-icing facility will eventually replace de-icing done at various locations on the airport property. It will also segregate de-icing-affected water from the storm drainage system.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"This is an important investment and upgrade for the Memphis airport, assuring greater safety for the flying public in the winter months. It will also provide good jobs. This grant is good for Memphis."
