Cosmo Censors Pro-Life Response to Amy Brenneman Saying She Doesn’t Regret Her Abortion

After actress Amy Brenneman wrote a column for Cosmopolitan about never regretting her abortion last month, U.S. Congresswoman Diane Black felt prompted to draft a thoughtful pro-life response.

While LifeNews and other conservative news outlets published Black’s poignant letter to Brenneman, the women’s magazine refused, according to Breitbart.

“After I read Amy Brenneman’s column, my office reached out to Cosmopolitan’s editorial staff and asked if they would consider giving me a platform to issue a response,” Black told Breitbart News. “Regrettably, they informed my office that, no, they would not consider a submission on this topic, mentioning their belief that the issue is one of ‘reproductive rights.’”

“It’s a shame that Cosmopolitan, a publication that purports to celebrate and empower women, is not interested in giving a voice to the millions of pro-life women who believe, as I do, that women’s rights begin in the womb,” Black continued.

Brenneman’s column in Cosmo focused on her abortion and her opposition to a Texas abortion law that recently was challenged at the U.S. Supreme Court. The case Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt was bought by abortion businesses against the pro-life Texas law responsible for closing abortion clinics that could not guarantee they could protect the health of Texas women. The law has been credited with saving the lives of more than 10,000 unborn children.

Brenneman said she felt prompted to tell her abortion story after asking Nancy Keenan, the former president of the radical pro-abortion group NARAL, why the pro-abortion movement is losing support while the pro-life movement is gaining it.

“She answered with one simple word: ‘stories,’” Brenneman said. “This makes sense to me. I am a storyteller by trade, after all. I believe that we connect and learn by the specifics of stories, our own and others.’”

“I have never, not for one moment regretted my abortion,” Brenneman said.

Unfortunately, Cosmopolitan refused to give Black, a leading pro-life advocate in Congress, a chance to respond.

A nurse, Black said abortion clinic regulations are particularly important to her because she has seen women die along with their babies after botched abortions. The Congresswoman told Breitbart that the emergency room where she worked tried to save a woman’s life one day after a botched abortion. Tragically, Black said the young woman had lost so much blood from the abortion that when she arrived in the emergency room, it was too late.

Black said the purpose of her response to Brenneman was not to be nasty toward women who have had abortions but to get “the truth out so that women have the ability to make the best decisions for them.”

Black also emphasized how abortion advocates try to hide the truth about unborn babies, opposing ultrasound and informed consent laws and lying to women about how unborn babies are just “blobs of tissue.”

“All too often women don’t get enough information when they do go to a source such as Planned Parenthood or these other abortion clinics that are making money off of abortion,” she said. “And they’re not given as much information as they need.”

Media outlets like Cosmo are complicit in the abortion industry’s deadly trade by refusing to give women like Black a platform. Recently, abortion survivor Gianna Jessen similarly described how the mainstream media ignores her story because it would confirm that unborn babies have value.

Black concluded, “When we try to tell the other side of the story, they shut us down – that to me is a ‘war on women’ – not letting me speak, not letting me be a part of being able to tell my side and get the truth out there about women not really having the kind of information that they need to make the decision – or once they make the decision to be in a safe place where a physician would have a hospital within 30 miles they could take that young girl or woman to in case there was an emergency situation.”

Breitbart News said it contacted Cosmopolitan for comments about rejecting Black’s article but did not receive a response.
