Rep. Smucker Follows Through on Promise to Constituents
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is working to make Washington more accountable and save taxpayers' money. Rep. Smucker today voted for the REINS Act – legislation that would curb unnecessary, expensive federal regulations from unelected bureaucrats.
"I made a promise to my constituents that I would work to rein in Washington's out-of-control spending and reduce the regulatory burden on small businesses," said Rep. Smucker. "The REINS Act is a crucial first step forward in that fight. As a former small business owner, I am keenly aware of how onerous federal regulations stifle job creation and hinder economic growth. This legislation will help provide relief to small businesses across the country and will have a direct, positive impact on the people I am here to serve."
Background
3,853 federal regulations were issued in 2016, costing American taxpayers $1.9 trillion. The REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act will increase accountability and transparency in the federal regulatory process by requiring Congress to approve all new major regulations expected to cost more than $100 million.
