Rep. Smucker Announces $5 Million in Savings for Constituents

February 11, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) is announcing that $5 million in savings have been returned to or experienced by constituents residing in Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District, as a result of his offices' casework efforts.

"It is an honor to serve the residents of Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District. One of the most important things I do as a Member of Congress, is help constituents work through government bureaucracy, intervening on a person's behalf to answer questions, find solutions, or just cutting through the red tape," said Smucker.

"My office works directly with the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, and many other federal agencies on a daily basis. $5 million returned to constituents comes in released tax refunds, processed Social Security payments and paid veterans' benefits. Since taking office in 2017, my office has closed nearly 4,000 cases to assist individuals.

"Our office helped a Lancaster County widow of a World War II pilot veteran receive overdue aid and attendance benefits. After the case was successfully closed, the widow's daughter said: ‘We are very happy and very thankful for the help that your office gave us. I am convinced it wouldn't have happened without your help.'"

"My staff in our Lancaster and York County district offices serve as advocates and liaisons with federal agencies. While my office cannot guarantee a positive outcome for every constituent, my staff works to ensure that the hard-working taxpayers of Pennsylvania's 11th District receive the benefits they are entitled to by law and that they are afforded the responsive and professional service they deserve," said Smucker.

Constituents experiencing issues with federal agencies are encouraged to contact Rep. Smucker's district offices via the contact information listed below, or at Smucker.House.Gov.
