Tigard road project receives federal grant

A road project that Tigard city planners expect to open up an underused area just west of Highway 217 for industrial development is set to begin construction next year after it was approved for $2 million in federal funding last week.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration announced the grant award last Wednesday for , intended to construct a road that will provide public access to undeveloped land in the 138-acre Hunziker Industrial Core — the city's name for the commercial and industrial area centered on Southwest Hunziker Street, west of Highway 217 and south of Highway 99W.
