Rep. Bonamici reacts to US election results, Trump victory

Read the official statement from Oregon Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici below:

"Like many Oregonians and Americans, I’m deeply disappointed by the results of the presidential election. Our democracy requires that we accept the results so we can have a peaceful transition of power. Both Secretary Clinton and President Obama have called on us to respect that transition.

"This election has exposed deep divisions in our country, and we have a lot of work to do to build bridges and promote understanding so we can begin to heal and move forward together. In his acceptance speech, President-elect Trump pledged to 'bind the wounds of division' and to serve all Americans. I genuinely hope he lives up to that promise. I am prepared to do my part to help the nation heal, to make sure my constituents get the services they need, and to continue to champion policies that will build the economy, strengthen public education, and help working families get ahead.

"It is an honor to be reelected by the people of NW Oregon. I appreciate the voters for placing their confidence in me. I take this responsibility very seriously and I will continue to work with all of my colleagues to find common ground. And I will continue to stand up for the values of equality and equity for everyone and promote tolerance, understanding, and kindness."
