Elected officials hope renovations to a local park will help push their efforts to make their district the healthiest in the city.

State Senator Leroy Comrie, and Council Member Daneek Miller joined the Parks Department for the ground breaking of Pat Williams playground Wednesday.

Most of the $800,000 project is being funded by the City Council, and both elected officials are hoping it will help with their goal of getting their district up and moving.

By the time construction is done, locals can expect a brand new basketball court, swing set and fitness equipment.

“All of the major statistics show are regarding illness in southeast Queens are at higher number than they should be,” said Comrie.

“It's really going to enhance the quality of life holistically of all of our community, and as we strive to have the healthiest district in the city of New York, the 27th District,” added Miller. “This is going to be a real part of that, so I'm excited.”

The park is expected to reopen next spring.
