Kuster Votes to Pass Bipartisan Legislation to Combat Illegal Robocalls
Washington, DC,
December 5, 2019
Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted in favor of the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, which passed the House this afternoon. This bipartisan legislation protects American consumers from robocalls, fraud, and abuse. “All Americans know what it’s like to receive countless unwanted and bothersome robocalls, often multiple times a day,” said Kuster. “This legislation will help put the American consumer back in control and reduce the frequency of these incessant, disruptive calls. I’m pleased the House and Senate came together in a bipartisan way to pass this commonsense and much-needed bill, and I urge the President to swiftly sign it into law.” The legislation would help combat illegal robocalls by creating significant penalties for violations of the ban on certain robocalls. This legislation also requires the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to institute a rule to help protect a subscriber from receiving unwanted calls or texts from an unauthenticated number. The TRACED Act was led by Senator John Thune (R-SD) and Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ). The legislation will now head to President Trump’s desk for his signature. Kuster voted in favor of similar legislation, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (H.R.3375), in July. ### |
