In an exclusive one-on-one interview with The Brody File, Congressman Mark Meadows, leader of the House Freedom Caucus says that a GOP vote on healthcare could actually be held during the two-week Easter recess that is set to begin Friday. “A number of us are willing to stay in Washington DC to work on it,” Meadows says. “As we look at this recess I think it’s important to note that we may come back to vote on it. The leader (House Majority Kevin McCarthy) has expressed a willingness to do that so if we get some kind of agreement to allow it to linger out there is not best and so as we start to look at solutions, I’m hopeful that we can. I’m talking to some of the others that have opposing views both later today and the coming days. We’re actually optimistic that we’ll find some common ground to put forth a bill and actually pass it and get it out of the House and over to the Senate.”

Meadows went on to tell me that he sees, “movement on everybody’s standpoint” and that, “there’s some room for some optimism.” He also made clear that, “failure is not an option.”

Meadows says the House Freedom Caucus has given plenty in this GOP fight over healthcare. They wanted all twelve insurance mandates under Obamacare repealed but Meadows tells me that right now, they are just trying to repeal four of them. He makes clear that mandates allowing for pre-existing conditions and those who are 26 years and under staying on their parents insurance plan are not in jeopardy at all. Their main goal is to get insurance premiums down.

More from my one-on-one interview with Congressman Mark Meadows coming Friday.
