Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Tom Emmer (MN-06) announced over $2.4 million dollars in funding for Sixth District communities under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which was allocated by Congress through the CARES Act.
The total investment in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District is $2,410,267 with Anoka County receiving $1,353,920, the City of St. Cloud receiving $363,907 and Washington County receiving $692,440.The CDBG grant program is intended to keep communities strong by ensuring improved housing, increased economic opportunities, and better living environments for low income individuals.
"The Coronavirus outbreak impacted Americans in many different ways, but for individuals facing loss of employment and difficulty paying their bills, evictions became a terrifying reality.” said Congressman Emmer. “I was proud to support the CARES Act, and this vital CDBG funding will go towards targeted neighborhoods with higher risks of eviction. This investment from the Administration is a testament to their commitment to the American people."
CDBG funds can be used for numerous housing opportunities, including housing rehabilitation and construction, assistance with down payments, building updates for increased accessibility, and job training.
In March, Congress passed, and Congressman Emmer supported the CARES Act, which provided $5 billion in supplemental CDBG funding to prevent, prepare for, and respond to Coronavirus. The funds have been dispersed to assist individuals and households facing a higher risk of eviction. This funding benefitting Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District is part of the third allocation of the approximately $2 billion remaining from CARES Act funding.
