ST. CLOUD -- A new school in St. Cloud just celebrated its grand opening. Athlos Academy, a charter school, hosted its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony tonight (Wednesday).

Parents, students and the community were invited to tour the school before the ceremony began. Board chair, Dan McKeon, co-founder Ryan Van Alfren and Congressman Tom Emmer spoke highly of the school during the event.

McKeon says the K-6 school focuses on making physical activity more of a priority during the school day.

"Kids will have phys ed more frequently than they would in most schools, we also incorporate movement breaks into class time, so generally every young student in this building is going to be moving with a lot more frequency," says McKeon.

Athlos Academy is a tuition free school and no prerequisites are required to be enrolled in the school. McKeon says the only limits the school has is its size, they can only enroll a certain number of students.

"I would predict that we will open with somewhere between 500-600 students, we have the capacity to serve up to approximately 800 students but we don't need to get to that capacity. We want to grow strategically and make sure we are keeping our class sizes small and making sure we're not sacrificing the integrity of the program."

The school will have about 125 students per grade and registration is still open for this fall.
