Pingree Statement Regarding Absence for Bipartisan Families First Coronavirus Response Act Vote

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement about her absence during the bipartisan passage of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act:

“Last night the House overwhelmingly voted to approve the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to make coronavirus testing free for most patients, secure paid emergency leave, enhance unemployment insurance, strengthen food security initiatives, and increase federal Medicaid funding to states,” said Congresswoman Pingree. “I was not able to cast my vote in-person to support this critical bill because I had a long-scheduled hip surgery, which required that I return to Maine on Friday morning. I am extremely pleased to see this legislation pass on a bipartisan basis despite my absence. The Senate must take up this legislation immediately and I hope the President follows through on his tweet saying he supports H.R. 6201 and will sign the House-passed bill so we can begin to ease some of the hardship caused by the coronavirus outbreak.”

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act builds on an $8.3 billion emergency coronavirus spending package enacted into law on March 6.

The text of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, H.R. 6201, is here. A summary of H.R. 6201 is here.
