Jefferson Pike (Md. 180) was closed between Petersville Road (Md. 79) and Burkittsville Road (Md. 17) near Brunswick because of damage from floodwater on May 15.

The state has received more than $650,000 in federal money to help compensate for damage to roads in Frederick and Washington counties caused by severe storms in May and June 2018.

The U.S. Department of Transportation gave $653,805 to Maryland’s State Highway Administration to reimburse the state for the repair and reconstruction of federal highways and roads that were damaged in the storms.

Perfect example of federal benefits for issues that are not a federal issue. In a different article (on the 287g program), one commenter complained about tax dollars going to hold criminals who violated federal immigration laws. This despite the fact that Maryland gets $1.53 from the federal government for every tax dollar went to the Feds. The moderators for some reason deleted my comment in that article even though it did not violate the discussion rules. We'll see if this comment is allowed to stay.

If your deleted comment was in response to another comment that was also deleted, yours may have been collateral damage. That has happened to me.

To answer your question, yes, there are 10 states that pay more than they get. Those states are: NH, NE, CO, ND, WA, IL, CT, MA, NJ, and NY. NY pays the most ($35.5 billion more than they received in 2017 or $0.86 received for every dollar sent). CT paid the most on a per dollar basis receiving only $0.74 for every tax dollar sent. They average is $1.20 from the Feds for every $ sent and MD is at $1.53 from the Feds for every $ sent.

as far as the deleted comment, the original comment talking about not wanting to subsidize federal programs with local tax dollars is still there. I simply was pointing out that the money flows both ways and that not cooperating between levels of government is not the way to go.
