WASHINGTON D.C.- Republican Congressman Andy Barr is introducing legislation that would limit who can care for a veteran's child.

The VA Child Care Protection Act, would prohibit Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities from paying a child care provider if they employ an individual who has been charged with a sex offense, an offense involving a child victim, a violent crime, a drug felony, or other offense that VA determines appropriate.

Barr says he orginally tacked the bill on as an amendment to another bill but it was made out of order.

"Our veterans deserve the peace of mind in knowing when they put their kids in the custody of a child care agency that that child care agency is not employing anyone who has either committed a crime against a child or accused of a crime against a child," Barr said.

Barr says the committee chair said the American Civil Liberties Union is oppossed to the measure.

The bill number is H.R. 3788.
