Pelosi, Hoyer: Now is not the time to consider impeachment
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Whip Steny Hoyer (Md.) on Wednesday pushed back on a resolution from one of their members to impeach President Trump, calling it premature.
“Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment,” the senior House Democrats wrote in a statement ahead of the floor vote.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) on Wednesday said he will force a vote on his impeachment resolution after threatening it for months. The measure is expected to fail due to lack of support from Republicans and many Democrats.

Pelosi and Hoyer said that while Trump has “made statements and taken actions that are beyond the pale for most Americans” and that “legitimate questions have been raised about his fitness to lead this nation,” the Democrats should be focused on opposing the GOP’s tax-reform legislation.
“The special counsel’s investigation is moving forward as well, and those inquiries should be allowed to continue,” the Democrats added.
Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team are investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, among other things.
