The County of San Diego has immediate openings for Temporary Case Investigators that will support the T3 (Test, Trace, Treat) response to the COVID 19 pandemic.   
 

TEMPORARY CASE INVESTIGATOR
Public Health Services

Applications will be accepted beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 20.

 
Contact tracing and investigation plays an important role in public health responses to infectious disease. By tracing the contacts of COVID-19 confirmed individuals, testing them for infection, treating the COVID-19 confirmed and tracing their contacts in turn, public health aims to reduce infections in the population.  For the COVID-19 response, a strong network of Temporary Case Investigators are needed to support individuals with confirmed COVID 19 exposure.

Temporary Case Investigators work will be limited to COVID 19 investigations and incumbents must be able to travel to, and participate in, multiple in-person trainings in San Diego County, be able to report to a County worksite with short notice, and be able to work 40 hours a week, potentially up to 6-9 months.  Individuals will perform most of the work from home and should be able to work weekdays and weekends as case investigation is a seven (7) day operation.  Temporary Case Investigators may be required to use their own phone, computer (MacOS or Windows, no tablets), and/or internet services.
 
Duties will include:
  • Confirming COVID 19 lab results
  • Conducting COVID 19 disease investigations
  • Identifying contacts and opening contact investigations to be completed by the Contact Tracer Team
  • Providing home isolation requirements and instructions; providing County temporary lodging referrals as needed
  • Maintaining up-to-date information about COVID 19 disease prevention, transmission and investigation processes by attending weekly virtual Q & A sessions with epidemiology subject matter experts
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate data entry in an electronic charting system.
  • Notifying supervisors and appropriate administrators of any high-profile or high-risk exposures, deaths, and/or outbreaks
  • Maintaining case confidentiality
     
Ideal Candidates will possess:
  • Experience doing phone or in person interviews with individuals to collect medical or other confidential information
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines
  • Education and/or experience in a science, health, or related field
  • Computer skills that include working with and uploading PDF files and spreadsheets
  • A clear understanding of patient confidentiality, including the ability to conduct interviews without violating confidentiality
  • Excellent and sensitive interpersonal, cultural sensitivity and interviewing skills such that they can build and maintain trust with patients and contacts
  • The ability to grasp medical terms and principles of exposure, infection, and infectious periods
  • Ability to independently manage workload that includes reaching out to contacts over the phone, maintaining spreadsheets, and data entry
  • Ability to maintain a distraction-free work area
