Las Vegas, NV - June 11, 2021

Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak signed legislation from the 81st Legislative Session, including bills related to expanding access to elections and supporting Nevada’s diverse immigrant community.

At today’s first bill signing, the Governor was joined by sponsors of legislation aimed at expanding electoral access including Assemblywoman Lesley Cohen, Speaker Jason Frierson, and community advocates and organizations.

In the subsequent Immigrant Heritage Month Bill Signing Ceremony, the Governor was joined by legislation advocates and community supporters, including Congresswoman Dina Titus and bill sponsor Assemblywoman Selena Torres. Additionally, Governor Sisolak proclaimed June as Immigrant Heritage Month and celebrated the contributions of Nevada’s immigrant community at this bill signing.

The following is a list of bills the Governor held signing ceremonies for today:

Accessible & Secure Elections Legislation
“As of the end of May, lawmakers have introduced close to 400 restrictive bills in 48 states in the 2021 legislative sessions across the country, and more than 20 laws have already been enacted this year that will make it harder for Americans to vote,” said Governor Sisolak. ”But today, in the great State of Nevada we are sending a strong message that the Silver State is not only bucking the national trend of infringing on voting rights, but rather we are doing everything we can to expand access to the polls while also ensuring our elections are secure and fair. And nothing sends that message like signing these five elections bills today.”

Immigrant Heritage Month Bill Signing Ceremony
“Immigrants have contributed to our society as leading figures in politics, business, arts and entertainment, education, science, and technology. They continue to innovate and strengthen our economy by creating jobs in Nevada and providing unique social, historical, and cultural influences and traditions that enrich the great character of our State. All these reasons and more is why I take great pride in signing these important pieces of legislation into law today,” said Governor Sisolak. ”I would like once again thank the bill sponsors and all of the organizers who work so hard to make Nevada a welcoming State for all. And I would like to thank our immigrant community for all you contribute to our state every single day, and especially over these past 16 difficult months. I have said before, and I will say it again, the diversity and culture of our people is undoubtedly our strength in this State!”
