Rep. Soto Announces $2 Million Grant for Poinciana Health Center Program

March 5, 2019

HHS funding will increase access to affordable care

Washington, DCU.S. Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09) announced today that the Primary Care Medical Services of Poinciana will receive a $2,630,115 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support the Health Center Program. The funds will help vulnerable populations in the area who rely on Health Centers for affordable, accessible heath care access.

"The care and services provided at the Primary Care Medical Services of Poinciana are critical for the well-being of our community," stated Rep. Soto. "I am pleased Poinciana will receive this federal grant to support lifesaving programs and expand access to primary care for our underserved and vulnerable populations. Our office will continue assisting the community with federal grant applications that help improve the health of our constituents, especially those in the suburban, rural parts of our district."

According to Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) more than 27 million people in every U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, rely on HRSA-funded centers for care, including 1 in 9 children, 1 in 5 rural residents, and more than 355,000 veterans.

Health Center Programs are also increasingly becoming the first line of defense in combatting the nation's opioid epidemic. For more information, visit HRSA factsheet.
