I BELIEVE, 5-2. >> DAYTONA BEACH CITY COMMISSIONER TOOK TWO VOTES WEDNESDAY NIGHT ONE TO INCREASE , THE AMOUNT OF FINES FOR VIOLATORS OF FACE COVERINGS FROM 25 TO 50 AND UP TO 150. THE SECOND TO REVISE THE ENTIRE MOTION. >> MOTION CARRIES. >> DAYTONA BEACH CITY COMMISSIONERS WILL BEGIN IMPOSING FINES FOR PEOPLE WHO WON’T WEAR A MASK OR FACE COVERING INDOORS AND DON’T QUALIFY FOR AN EXCEPTION TO THE CITYWIDE MANDATE. >> I THINK THAT’S WHAT PART OF THIS ORDINANCE DOES, GIVES A SMALL BUSINESS KIND OF A SHIELD TO STAND BEHIND SO THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE THE BAD GUY AND AM OK WITH BEING A BAD GUY IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE. >> THE CITY-WIDE FACE COVERING ORDER HAS BEEN IN PLACE SINCE JUNE 28. A VIOLATION OF THE EMERGENCY ORDER REQUIRING FACIAL COVERINGS IS A NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENSE NOR DOES IT REQUIRE SEARCH OR ARREST OF AN INDIVIDUAL. THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION IS FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE, $50. FOR THE SECOND OFFENSE, $100. FOR A THIRD AND SUBSEQUENT, $150. >> WITH THE POLICE ACTUALLY DO THIS? Fines now in place for those who violate mask mandate in Daytona Beach
City leaders in Daytona Beach have amended a mask ordinance adopted several weeks ago.Civil fines are now in place for those who don't wear masks indoors when social distancing isn't possible.Officials voted to increase the penalty amounts for those who violate the mandate.For a first offense, a violator could be fined $50, $100 for a second offense and $150 for a third. Leaders did say people will first be asked to abide by the law and would have the option to leave the place where masks are required.
