Deltona firefighters and several community partners have teamed up for the annual effort to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to local students.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Deltona Fire Rescue Department’s annual backpack giveaway will operate like a drive-thru this Saturday.

The giveaway — an effort of Deltona firefighters, AdventHealth, Volusia County Hispanic Association, Crunch Fitness, Halifax Health and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office — will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex, 1200 Saxon Blvd., while supplies last, according to a city news release. Motorists should enter the park from Saxon Boulevard and exit onto Section Line Trail.

Families should remain inside their vehicles as volunteers bring over one backpack filled with school supplies per child, for any student in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The student must be present to receive a backpack.
