Larson Votes to Stop War With Iran

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted to repeal the 2002 Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) that authorized the war with Iraq and to prevent President Trump from further escalating hostilities in the region by prohibiting any funding for war with Iran.

"One of the hardest votes a Member of Congress takes is the one to authorize the use of military force to go to war. In 2002, I voted against the Iraq war authorization after visiting the region. It is under overly broad authorizations that Presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump have used military force beyond Congress's intent, and I have long fought for their repeal.

"After two decades, trillions of dollars, and thousands of lost lives, we cannot afford to slip into another costly war without an explanation to the American people. The Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over matters of war, regardless of who is the Commander in Chief. Only Congress has the sole power to declare war, not the President," said Larson.
