Larson Presents Glastonbury Student with Congressional Award

West Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) presented James Amenta, a Kingswood-Oxford High School student from Glastonbury, CT with a Bronze Congressional Award Medal.

"I'm honored to congratulate James and present him with the Bronze Congressional Award today. James has proven to be selfless and diligent. His willingness to continue to challenge himself and his commitment to community service is inspiring to see in someone so young. I am excited to see all the wonderful things James will continue to do in the future," said Larson.

James is receiving the Bronze Congressional Award medal for achieving his goals in voluntary public service, personal development, personal fitness, and expedition/exploration. To complete his Voluntary Public Service, James volunteered for both the American Cancer Society and the international non-profit Team Tobati. For Team Tobati, he traveled to Tobati, Paraguay where he worked on projects translating for doctors, building schools, parks, and roads, as well as doing agricultural field work. James also accomplished personal goals by building up his skiing skillset as a ski instructor, moved up to his school's varsity golf team, and planned and executed a 3-day adventure on Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

The Congressional Award was established by Congress in 1979. It recognizes students who have committed to bettering and challenging themselves and to give back to their local communities.
