Larson Fights for Americans’ Health Care in Hearing

June 12, 2019

Washington, D.C. – During today's Ways and Means hearing, Pathways to Universal Health Coverage, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) gave an impassioned speech fighting for universal health care.

Larson's remarks can be viewed here.

"It's almost as though there's two alternate universes that exist here in Congress, in one universe, we're working towards achieving universal health coverage, and in the other, they're looking to do nothing, and continue to chip away at the Affordable Care Act. The Republicans time and time again have proven they want to do nothing. People on the other side can wax eloquently, but Daniel Patrick Moynihan warned a long time ago about semantic infiltration. What does that mean? That means the repetition of a phrase over and over again, as so that the general public will begin to think that any kind of Universal Health Care coverage will only mean the sky is falling in. That's the conversations the Republicans are pushing. We are a committee that is about solutions and the vitality of ideas. When it comes to discussing these ideas, that's the kind of conversation that should ensue, not empty rhetoric that will lead to nothing. That's not what we were sent here to do," said Larson.
