Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement responding to the Trump Administration's statements and actions targeting the Affordable Care Act over the weekend:

"The Affordable Care Act has succeeded in its goals to increase access, improve quality, and lower cost – not only for the 20 million newly insured Americans, but for seniors on Medicare and the more than 100 million Americans who have insurance through the workplace.

"It was our hope that the Trump Administration was sincere about improving the health coverage of the American people. Instead, as we have seen in the Administration's actions over the weekend, President Trump is a full partner in Republicans' plan to take seniors and working families from affordable care to chaos.

"Whoever advised the President on his nonsensical executive order targeting the ACA either did not understand the law, or does not care about the damage destroying the ACA will do to seniors and working families. I hope it's the first, I fear it is both. The statements on Sunday announcing plans targeting Medicaid also represent a horrible threat to the health security of seniors and working families across the nation.

"After seven years of whining, Republicans – true to form – want to overturn the ACA to give a tax break to the richest families as they undermine seniors and working families across the country."
