This week, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) led a legislative effort to prohibit Members of Congress from flying first class using taxpayer funds. Specifically, Rep. Gosar authored and submitted a request to the Committee on Appropriations for specific language to be included in the Fiscal Year 2015 Legislative Branch Appropriations Act that would prohibit this practice.

Huffington Post: Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) submitted a request to the Committee on Appropriations prohibiting members of Congress from flying first class "on the taxpayer's dime," according to a Friday press release. "Members of Congress are servants of the people and should not be considered a privileged class," Gosar wrote in his request, which he filed on Tuesday.
The Hill: Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) is leading a charge to stop members of Congress from using taxpayer funds to buy first-class airline tickets as they jet back and forth between their districts and Washington. On top of their $174,000 salaries, members of Congress are given a "Representational Allowance" that lets them use taxpayer funds to buy plane tickets. But Gosar said that is taxpayer money and that members shouldn't be using it for first-class seats at a time of record-high national debt.
TownHall.com: Now, Republican Reps. Paul Gosar and Walter Jones along with California Democrat Rep. Raul Ruiz are looking to end the first-class treatment out of respect for taxpayers. Earlier this week Gosar wrote and submitted a request with Ruiz and Jones to the Committee on Appropriations asking that language prohibiting lawmakers from traveling first-class on the taxpayer dime be added to the Fiscal Year 2015 Legislative Branch Appropriations Act.
