Roux Institute Recruiting Veterans

The Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Portland Maine is looking to recruit veterans to participate in their graduate school programming.

The Harold Alfond Foundation has donated $100 million to the Institute, and $63.4 million will go toward tuition scholarships over 10 years. Its beneficiaries will form a talent pool that is poised to attract new companies and an additional workforce to Maine.

Veterans will be among the groups prioritized to receive the new scholarships. Maine offers generous benefits to attract and serve veterans, who comprise 11 percent of the state’s population (which is close to double the national average), and more than 12,000 of the veterans in Maine are younger than 40.

The vision of the Roux Institute is to sustain economic growth here in Maine, and to make Portland a tech-hub of New England.

If you're a veteran looking to obtain your advanced degree in an ever-growing field, please visit the Roux Institute's website for scholarship and enrollment information.

Maine Veterans' Home - Augusta

The Maine Veterans' Home (MVH) in Augusta will soon be opening it's doors to veterans looking for care in their next stage of life.

The design of the new Augusta Home follows the national movement of the Small House Model. It brings changes in the physical layout of the home, and modernizes the way MVH staff will fulfill their mission of “caring for those who served.”

The new facility is beautiful, and MVH would like to share it with as many people as possible.

If you are a veteran, and are interested in the Maine Veterans' Home, or if you have a loved-one interested in this next stage of care, please consider MHV.

For More Information:

The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services (MBVS) and eight participating clinics, including the UMA Dental Hygiene Clinic in Bangor, will provide dental hygiene services to veterans unable to afford preventive dental care. The Maine Veterans’ Dental Network, which is overseen by MBVS, received a $35,000 grant from Northeast Delta Dental to serve veterans who do not otherwise have dental coverage or cannot afford dental care.

The UMA Dental Hygiene Clinic received $4,000 of this grant funding to provide preventive dental hygiene services (e.g. cleanings) for qualifying veterans. This program will also provide UMA’s dental hygiene program students with valuable clinical experiences under the supervision of UMA’s Dental Hygiene faculty.

To receive dental hygiene services, veterans must provide a copy of their DD-214 (discharge papers) to the clinic and grant permission to forward the document to MBVS for inclusion in its database. If the veteran does not have a copy of their DD-214, MBVS can assist them in acquiring one by submitting the State of Maine Request Form - located on the MBVS website.

To make an appointment, eligible veterans may contact the UMA Dental Hygiene Clinic at 207-262-7872 or visit to schedule a free dental cleaning, including X-rays and fluoride treatment. The UMA Dental Hygiene Clinic is located at 201 Texas Ave, Bangor.
