Suicide Prevention and Awareness
Call To Action Month

Nationally, 20 veterans a day take their own lives.

Maine’s veteran suicide rate is higher than both the regional and national average.  We all know someone who has served, but do you know what to do when that veteran or service member asks for help?

Throughout the month of September, the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services, VA Maine Healthcare System, Maine Vet Centers, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be hosting a 'Call To Action' month to education the community on suicide prevention.

Below is a list of events and trainings:

MBVS Homeless Veterans Coordinator Program

Earlier this month, Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services Director David Richmond
had the pleasure of addressing the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) on work we are doing here in Maine. Director Richmond delivered a presentation on our Homeless Veterans Coordinator Program.

In large part to our partners across the state, our Homeless Veterans Coordinator, Jarad Greeley has made great progress in identifying homeless veterans from Fort Kent to Kittery.

Tackling the issue of veteran homelessness takes a community effort, and we thank our partners for everything they do!

If you know a homeless veteran or a veteran who may be at risk of homelessness, please give Jarad a call today at 207-430-6036 or visit our website for a list of resources: www.maine.gov/veterans
